What the geography round asks
Every question names a set of places and asks for one member of it. You type a single answer. If it is in the accepted list, the question closes and you get the points for that answer. If it is not listed, you can try again while the clock is still running. The timed version gives you 25 seconds per question. The untimed version waits for you, which is the better way to learn the wording of a new prompt.
The Geography topic has 23 prompts and 276 accepted answers across them. A ten-question Unlimited dive draws ten of those prompts, preferring the ones this browser has not seen yet. Infinite keeps serving geography prompts until you stop, so it is the way to work through the whole set in one sitting.

How a rarer answer scores more: a worked example
Take the prompt “Name one of the five oceans.” The scope line reads: Ocean names, with or without the word Ocean. Seas are outside this question. There are 5 accepted answers, and each one has a fixed practice tier set by the editors of this bank:
| Answer | Tier | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Pacific | Common | 10 |
| Atlantic | Familiar | 15 |
| Indian | Uncommon | 30 |
| Arctic | Rare | 60 |
| Southern | Standout | 100 |
Every row is correct, but the points are not equal. The ocean most people name first sits in the lowest tier, and the ocean that many people forget is worth the full 100. A sea, such as the Mediterranean, is outside the scope and is not accepted at all. The tiers are editorial judgments about which answers are less obvious. They are not a live count of what other players typed.
The practical lesson is to hold two candidates before you submit. Once an answer is accepted the question is closed, so you cannot swap a 10-point answer for a 100-point one afterward. The full point scale is 10, 15, 30, 60, 85 and 100, and a ten-question dive tops out at 1,000. The scoring guide explains the tiers in more detail.
Geography tips that come from the scope lines
- States are not territories. The Canada prompt accepts provinces only, and the Australia prompt accepts the six states, not the two mainland territories. The US territory prompt works the other way round and excludes the states.
- Census divisions are narrower than everyday regions. Several US prompts use the Census Bureau's divisions. The Middle Atlantic division has only three states, which is smaller than many casual definitions of the Mid-Atlantic, and the Mountain division is not every state with mountains.
- Sovereign country means sovereign. The South America prompt leaves out French Guiana because it is part of France. The Caribbean prompt counts island countries only, so mainland Belize and Guyana do not fit there.
- Europe and the European Union are different lists. The EU country and EU capital prompts follow the 27 members on the EU's own country pages. The United Kingdom is not a member, and neither is Switzerland or Norway.
- Small places are often the deep cuts. Large, famous countries tend to sit in the lower tiers. Smaller members of a list are where the higher tiers usually are, so it pays to run through the map edge by edge before you commit.
For the general method, including when to switch the timer back on, read the Krillion strategy guide. If geography is only one weak spot, the topic practice page lists every other category in the bank, and sports practice uses the same format.
Timed or untimed?
Start untimed while the scope lines are new. Most early misses in geography are boundary mistakes, such as naming a territory, a region, or a non-member, and those are easier to fix when you can read the question twice. Once you are choosing between correct answers rather than guessing at the boundary, switch to the timed Krillion Unlimited round so the 25-second window is part of the practice.
Geography practice questions
Is this the official Krillion Geography pack?
No. It is an independent practice set written for this site. The publisher runs its own themed packs on krillion.io. Scores and unlocks here do not carry over to an official account.
How many geography questions are there?
The Geography topic currently has 23 prompts with 276 accepted answers in total. The list on this page is generated from the same question bank the game uses, so it changes when the bank changes.
Can I play geography without the timer?
Yes. Use the untimed button. The game opens with the Untimed box already ticked and Geography selected. You can switch the timer back on before you press Start.
Do two-letter state codes count?
On the question about the fifty US states, the scope line says state names and two-letter postal codes count. Other prompts use the full name, and each scope line tells you what is accepted.
Where can I see every accepted answer?
After each round the dive log lists the accepted answers for the prompts you just played, with the factual source. This page does not print a full answer key.
Where the geography facts come from
Each prompt links one public reference, and the accepted answers are checked against it. The geography prompts use these sources:
